ABOUT

40 DAYS OF CONNECTION is essentially a blog about connecting with ones self, with one's finances, or with other people.

2016
My third 40 days of Connection will be about connecting with myself and my own happiness. I'm working on the 52 List Project as well as the Happiness Project

Goal: I want to live in the moment and more thoroughly enjoy my life and happiness.

2015
My second 40 days of Connection will be about connecting with both my finances and my health. I am attempting to exercise regularly and manage my finances better.

Goal: I want to lose at least 5 pounds within the next 40 days and I want to spend less money on take out eating and other expenses. I want to be mindful about what I eat and how I spend money. I want to give myself 40 days, just 40 days to live my life purposefully by connecting with my body and my personal finances.

Rules: Once per day, every day for 40 days I need to do something to connect with my health and/or my finances. I need to create a small blog entry every day.

2013-2014
My first 40 days of Connection consisted of making an effort to connect with other people. Like most people, I typically go to work, come home, take care of my family, watch a little Television, read/write, and go to sleep. Rinse, repeat, for the next day. I have several groups of friends I hang out with, although not nearly as much as I should.

It's not that I don't want to connect with other people, but I often find myself too busy to extend myself outside of my normal close circle of friends/family.

Goal: I want to make myself emotionally available to other people. I believe that one of our biggest challenges as humans is indifference. Our indifference to each other and our sufferings. Over the years I have lost touch with people. I have forgotten birthdays, holidays, and bereavements. I want to give myself 40 days, just 40 days to live my life purposefully. I want to purposely try to connect with other people.

I have given myself a challenge. Once per day, every day for 40 days I need to connect with a friend, relative, or an acquaintance.

Rules: I want to keep it simple so I don't break the rules. I can connect with people in one of the following ways:

CAN
1) Phone call.
2) Fellowship (i.e. share a meal or an activity).
3) A long email.
4) A Skype session.
5) A written letter or card.
6) A gift.
7) Attending a performance or an activity on behalf of someone.
8) Face to face conversation.

CANNOT
1) Send text messages (unless it is to arrange a connection).
2) Excluding emergencies, cannot reschedule unless other party cancels.
3) Facebook messages (unless it is to arrange a connection).
